Prof. Roxana Mehran: It is important to take a really good history and physical examination.  That includes a guaiac stool test and a good rectal examination of these patients. It also is important to be very diligent about previous history of ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding and about the use of proton-pump inhibitors or H2 blockers.
